Earth 2025 - The Best Web Based Game Ever!

House Forsaken in Earth: 2025

Back in the Spring of 2000, House Forsaken tried out several Browser Based Games (BBG's).  One such game was Earth: 2025.  There were about a dozen HF members in this game.  War was sparked between HF and the 400+ member Earth: 2025 division of Camelot.  This war led to the humiliating destruction of the HF effort in what turned out to HF's only attempt to make it in Earth: 2025.

House Forsaken is Dead

In the early days of Solar Empre, June-October, 1999 House Forsaken was the mightiest clan in the game.  At least that is until the likes of the Evil Empire, TalkHouse & the Trex Mercenaries showed up.  Even then, HF's position was strong enough that in January 2000 SE creator/developer/operator Bryan Livingston awarded them their own SE game that was admined by HF members.  HF was also a multi-game outfit that also had strong clans in other major online games such as at Battle.net and in Everquest.

However, HF succumbed to hubris and became too big for its britches.  This happened in March, 2003 in the game of  TDZK that was created/developed/operated by HF members Jerle & Hotaru.  In that game 2 HF members, one of whom named Hyperion had played SE under the name of HY and who had originally  been a HF recruit in SE (and if a certain story is true played SE with HF back in late 1999 under the name of -=WindKull=-), were caught brazenly cheating.  In a related incident in the same month, Hyperion committed treason by destroying a HF planet (Planet OMGN).

Since HF prided itself as being a clan that claimed to have honor at the very core of its being and repeatedly used the idea that it was a honorable outfit in its recruiting that was firmly opposed to cheating, one have thought that the HF leadership would have come down hard on the cheaters.  Instead the opposite happened.  The leadership acted as if nothing bad happened and that, if anything, the real culprits were those who brought the cheating to the attention of the clan.  Additionally, the leadership failed to provide even the slightest discipline to Hyperion for his SE treason.

The end result of all this was the mass resignation of almost every member of the HF Browser-Based Gaming Realm  and with that the single most active unit within HF ceased to exist.  From that point on, HF went into a state of decline and fall and after years of being little more than a glorified "forum clan" has ceased to exist.

[XMDX] Moral Decay

Integritas Honos et Fidelitas
Created: 03.06.2013
The Moral Decay alliance started to play in the alliance server of earth2025 for the first time in reset ending in November 1998. The alliance was formed by several MUD players from the popular Moral Decay MUD. Early in MDs life they rose to the top by excellent war performance, eventually becoming the best alliance in the game and dominating the alliance server. After this MD mostly ranked amongst the top alliances in the game, though have lost some influence and strength in the past years. MD still play's earth which is now called EarthEmpires and several other games. World of Warcraft and Astro Empires are 2 of the other games where you will find the MD tag, we are looking to expand our little community into various games to find gamers who enjoy gaming as much as we do.

Review

By Chris Krueger, Editor of the MPOG Directory

I've been playing Earth 2025 for 3 months now. In this time I have gotten a good feel for the game, and usually have a country in the top 150 (out of 1500). This review is current as of 2-22-98.

Graphics and Sound:

Not applicable. This is a web based strategy game and graphics aren't needed.

Gameplay Engine:

There are currently 3 types of play to choose from: bottom frames, side frames, and no frames. The frames versions are essentially the same, and are organized very efficiently with one click access to all aspects of your country. The no frames version is organized well also, the only diffrence is that you have to scroll to the bottom of each page in order to move to a diffrent page. The key to building a great country varies to your taste, you can do it thru military, espionage, or domesticly. The servers are fast and I only have problems logging on about twice a month.

People and the Online Society:

Your either liked, or your hated, that pretty much sums up the interaction with other players. I have sent messages to countries and either I was ignored, helped, or returned the next day to find out I was attacked. Many players are in alliances, and this is one of the strongest components of the game. Thru allinaces you can gain new friends, and enemies. Although, trade sanctions are imposed on you for attacking a much weaker country, there are essentially no barriers to protect weak countries from the strong ones. New players are under protection for 100 turns, and you can only lose 10% of your assets. The game is balanced so a starting player can catch up to an experienced player if they build efficiently enough.

Overall Opinion:

At first, I was not impressed with this game at all, it seemed boring, but the more I played it, the more I began to enjoy it. The game has alot of depth, and varies upon how you build your country. The only major downfall is persistent cheating in the larger games (A & B), thus if you want to play a game with a greater chance of not having cheaters to compete against, you must join a random game, which will reduce the chance of getting into a game with your friends to form an alliance. But, once you get past the cheating, this is a good game to entertain you for around half an hour a day.

Barren Realms Elite

Barren Realms Elite was the precursor to Earth:  2025.  It was developed by Mehul Patel and quickly became the 2nd most popular BBS game with only Trade Wars 2002 being more popular.  BRE was a game limited to 25 players at a time, but despite this it became the basis for Patel's later creation the even more popular Earth:  2025.

Remembering a Great Game

The purpose of this archival blog is to collect all available resources from both the Live Web & the Internet Wayback Machine to serve as a reminder of the greatness that was once Earth: 2025.  Originally Barren Realms Elite on BBS Systems, this game became the first Browser-Based Game and one of the greatest of all time.
